INDEX TYPES

An index is an index is an index. Right?

Wrong.

I’m sure everyone is familiar with what we call a Subject and Name Index.

And most have seen if not used a Name Index.

And some have even used a First Line Index in books of poetry.

But how about an Index Locorum communium?

That means an index of places but it is actually an index of where to find the place in the text where common terms can be found.

Other Latin named indexes include:

Index rerum for sujects.

Index nominum  for names.

Index verborum for words or terms.

Cool right?
